Trip to Coorg
It was a Long Weekend this start of September 2011, but I had to come to office for 3 days .
Finally, for a break me and my friend decided to go to COORG, which is near Mysore, for a two day trip.
We enquired about the route to take and places to visit, finally we took, route from
Mysore-------Hunsur---------Nagarhole National Park, while going to Coorg. This is a longer route to Coorg.
We booked an Indica, our requirement was a good hindi speaking driver, who has been to Coorg earlier, and a good Audio system in car. Before leaving to Coorg, we had a heavy breakfast in Mysore only, and finally left around 10:30 AM
While going to Coorg, we took road from Nagarhole National Park, the road is not in a very good condition, but is picturesque, and you can enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife , we spotted some wild Elephants, Spotted Deer and Barah Singah. We also passed through Cofee Estates.
Our 1st destination was IRUPU Falls.
The beauty of this fall is, that we have pass through a jungle to see it, and it is not very crowded.
Since we went on a rainy day, flow of water was good, and we were able to enjoy the fall. We bought something to munch in CAB only.
As we were getting late, we deicided to go directly to Abbi falls and skip our food, as after 6PM entry is not allowed in Abbi falls, thank god we had a heavy breakfast .
There is a bridge in front of fall, standing on that bridge and feeling the water coming to face was an amazing experience. Water here was muddy, that was due to rain, which has also increased the flow. In other seasons, I don’t think the fall will look that beautiful.
We came back to Madekeri and visited “OmKareshwar” temple.
Madekeri , is a nice hill station to live and spend some quite time, if you want
We were looking for the accommodation in Madekeri only, we got lots of home stay , but we found them a bit costlier, Our driver took us to some Hotels, which were also not worth it.
Finally we looked for some Hotels and settled at Hotel “Chitra” which is in front of Madekeri Bus stop.
Tariff was 625 for a double bed room inclusive of all taxes.
We had our diner in a pure Veg restaurant, and did some shopping of famous coorg spices and coffee after that we went to sleep, as next morning we planned to leave at 6 AM.
Next morning our target was to leave for Dubare, to visit Elephant Training camp ,and do river rafting. Our Plan was reach Mysore form Dubare Kushalnagar
By doing this we have taken the entire circle of coorg, and covered most of the things.
Also the road in this route is very good.
We were late from our target time but still manage to leave by 7:30 AM, as it was raining heavily early morning
We were not able to go to Elephant Training Camp, due to rain.
We did River rafting, Cost for rafting was 600 rupees, for a 7KM stretch.
Rafting, here was not at all good, there were hardly 2 rapids, that to of Grade 1.
I have done rafting earlier, and it was more of a boating for me, for 1st timers they can try rafting here, but those who had done rafting earlier, don’t waste your time and money.
After Rafting we went to a Bamboo forest, which was also time and money waste.
Finally we went to “Golden Temple” which is a Tibetian Monestary, this was a new experience for me, as I was experiencing a completely new culture.
Temple is a must see, we reached about 12:30 PM, we were lucky to see the prayers,
Prayer time in afternoon is from 1-PM to 3-PM.
We left the temple around 2-PM and reached Mysore, around 3:30 PM.
Some Tips:-
• For one day trip take route fron Hunsur to Kushalnagar.
• Prefer finding you own stay, they would be cheaper.
• You cannot enter form Nagarhole Natioal Park after 6 PM.
• Similary you can enter DUBARE only after 8 AM, and Leave before 6 PM
• Carry some salt/Lime if you go near waterfall areas or while trecking , as there are many Leeches. Preferably walk in between of pathway
• Must take a driver who has been here, roads are bit tricky in some places
Must see Places:-
• IRPU Falls.
• TalCauvery (Originating point of river cauvery) (in monsoon this is closed)
• Golden Temple
• Trecking against IRPU fall.
• Trecking to the heighest peak of Coorg
Best Season:-Just after Monsoon
